It all starts with your imagination. It doesn’t matter what you are looking at, the question is what can you see?

Day job:

What is your favourite image?
Currently, my favourite is Mary July 2016.

Mary July 2016 by John Mee Photography

What is your long-term photographic goal?
To continue to grow my commercial photography business. To bring my black and white photography to a level where I am displaying it in galleries, writing about it and passing on my knowledge to others in my workshops and classes.

What inspires you?
The landscape and people around me are a constant inspiration. I also look within myself and try to bring what I feel to my images.

How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting seriously since about 2008.

What photographic kit do you use?
I shoot using a Nikon D800. Lenses include a Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 – my favourite, a Tokina 11-16mm F2.8, a Nikon 50mm F1.8 and a Nikon 70-200mm F4.

I use a 055 XPRO B Manfrotto tripod and Manfrotto MH054M0-Q2 head as well as a number of filters including Lee ND grads, a Lee 10 Stopper and a Lee 6 Stopper.

What would be your dream kit?
I’m happy with my current setup. Going forward, I’d like to start shooting more film as well, preferably with a Hasselblad square format film camera. I have an old Nikon FE but really need to get out with it more. 🙂

I took up photography a few years ago and shot everything in sight. In time, landscape capture, especially black and white became a firm favourite. I also love to shoot people.

Since entered the commercial market I have been enjoying shooting portraits, architecture, event and product photography. I have found this very enjoyable and hope to do more of it.
I hold regular group landscape workshops as well as one to one landscape workshops throughout the west of Ireland.
